A Marriage Revival in Virginia!
Dr. Brad Wilcox, a sociologist and Director of the National Marriage Project at UVA, highlights a hopeful trend in his AEI article, "Is Marriage Back? Divorce Is Down, Family Stability Is Up." He observes that young people, often from fractured homes, are increasingly recognizing the value of covenant marriage. Rather than rejecting it, they aspire to lifelong commitment and stability, signaling that marriage is being rediscovered. This generation yearns for enduring truths.
Wilcox's data is surprisingly optimistic: "Divorce is down 30% since 2007. Family instability is declining. And marriage is making a quiet comeback, especially among younger adults."
And then Dr. Wilcox speaks to why we, The Virginia Marriage Initiative exists!
"This revival in marriage won’t be sustained unless there are people and institutions willing to champion it."
We are building a coalition of churches committed to championing marriage because it is one of the “good things” of creation, His designed paradigm for raising and discipling children in faith, and one of two institutions He created to display His glory. The faith community should lead this revival!
At The Virginia Marriage Initiative, we are dedicated to helping you:
Disciple singles and dating couples toward godly marriage.
Mentor newlyweds to build a strong foundation.
Strengthen marriages with vision, skills, and support.
Develop relational ministry strategies to reach the unchurched in your community.
Broken relationships are often at the root of many profound community challenges. However, when the Church disciples people into strong, Christ-centered marriages and families, everything changes. The church is vibrant. Families become resilient. The Community Heals.
Now is the time for action. Marriage is making a comeback, and the Church should be at the forefront.
